David Wayne Gibbs

Born August 1, 1952 in Peoria to Robert Carl and Theresa Veronica (Mura) Gibbs, he married Karen Langve Peck on March 10, 1973. She survives.

Also surviving two sons, Brian David (Bren) Gibbs of Sarasota, Florida and Joey David Gibbs of Pekin; two grandchildren, Josiah and Victoria; and four brothers, Carl (Charlotte) Gibbs, Benny Gibbs, Don (Diana) Gibbs and Paul (Carla) Gibbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Michael “Mike” Gibbs.

Throughout the decades, David served as a minister of the Gospel and became a passionate soulwinner for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. David’s testimony of God’s saving grace has touched countless lives here in America and globally. He was the director of the Jesus Today Outreach in Peoria, Illinois in the 1980’s. He was also a featured speaker at Full Gospel Businessmen events throughout the United States. David was an itinerate evangelist throughout the Midwest for many years. In addition, he also hosted a local Christian radio and television program. David served as an associate pastor in Springfield and as a lead pastor in Pekin.

David retired from the City of Pekin transportation department in 2015.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, quality time with friends, reading his Bible, sharing testimonies, fishing, the outdoors, campfires, traveling with Karen, great food and good music.

A Celebration of Life service will be 6 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Brian Gibbs, his son, will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
