David Armstrong

Born June 23, 1948 in Peoria to Remus and Fern (Keltner) Armstrong, he married Carla Louise Weber on August 20, 1972 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Joy (Robert) Clauson of Morton; four grandchildren, Samantha Tabor, Rachel Clauson, Ryan Clauson and Jack Clauson; his twin brother, Donald Armstrong of Pekin; one sister, Jacqueline (Gary) Kipper of Collins, Missouri; one son-in-law, Douglas Tabor of Peoria Heights and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sarah Louise Tabor on July 10, 2007 in Peoria; one grandson, Jacob Clauson and three brothers, Roland Armstrong, Robert Armstrong and Jerry Armstrong.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

David was a full-time baker at Carl’s Bakery, the family bakery in East Peoria. He retired from the City of East Peoria after 32 years of service as a foreman over public works in 2000. He was a retired member of Teamster & Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria. David enjoyed serving the public and took great pride in his work to serve the community, especially his involvement with the Festival of Lights.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who lived his life serving others. He loved horticulture; being outdoors and had a special love for dogs. He especially enjoyed landscaping, fishing and tending to his flowers.

He was a member of Eastside Bible Church in Morton.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024 at Eastside Bible Church in Morton. Pastor Steve Weber, his brother-in-law, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
