Born August 10, 1943 in Peoria to Benny L. and Eva Faye (Mayhew) Carrington, he married Bonnie Kay (Lawson) Robinson on May 21, 1994 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rebecca (Randy) Beavers of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two stepsons, Brad (Stephanie) Robinson of Morton and Shane Robinson of Pekin; five grandchildren, Skyler Robinson, Heleyna Robinson, Presley Robinson, Benjamin Tull and Ian Tull; his sister, Carol Neeley Kirk Livingston of Havana and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves three grand dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Darrell was always a worker and started young. He worked at Corn Products, then worked at WABCO in Peoria as a welder and then at Caterpillar, Inc. for 35 years, where he was a supervisor in the Engine Division at Mossville, retiring in 2002. In retirement, he worked several years in the planning department for BelCan Engineering at Caterpillar. He last worked as a driver for the Reaching Across Illinois Library System on October 13th, a job he held for 10 years.
A devoted husband, Darrell loved traveling to the mountains or the gulf and sitting in his garage drinking a cold beer while cooking a steak on the grill.
He was a former member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916 and Pekin Elks Lodge 1271.
His visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Guidelines regarding social distancing and masks will apply. Private funeral services will be held at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Neeley, his nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
