PEKIN ~ Charles Henry Church, 94, of Pekin, passed away at 2:27 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at his home.
Born December 30, 1916 in Hutchinson, KS to William and Anna (Davis) Church, he married Lenora Jones on October 13, 1943 in Pekin. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1983 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Jane (Mike) Stauffer of Pekin; one granddaughter, Theresa (Troy) Fardel of Pekin; one grandson, Richard Crowe Jr. of Pekin and five great-grandchildren.
Charles served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands during WWII in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He worked for Keystone Steel and Wire in Bartonville, retiring in 1979. Previously, he worked as a plumber.
Charles was a member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1234 in Pekin and the Pekin Moose Family Center #916. He attended Pekin Bible Church.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Charles enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. He also enjoyed traveling and he had never met a stranger.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Pekin Bible Church. The Rev. Richard Jones will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and also from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.
