Carolyn Joyce Widmer

Born November 28, 1942 in Peoria to Lloyd and Ellen (Kleiber) Calloway, she married Glen C. Widmer, Jr. on July 20, 1962 in North Pekin. He died February 22, 2011 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her mother and her step father, Ellen and Roy Hoffman, who raised her; her father; and one step-grandson, Scott.

Surviving are her two daughters, Lorrie (Mike) Medearis of Morton and Amy Taylor of Mapleton; one step-daughter, Deborah Lindsey of Bloomington; two step-sons, Terry (Debbie) Widmer of Georgia and David (Kim) Widmer of Washington; five grandchildren, Ryan (Katie) Widmer of North Pekin, Cassie (Shawn) Keller of East Peoria, Mike Ratliff of North Pekin, Wesley Ratliff of Pekin, and Philip Widmer of Morton; four great-grandchildren, Michelle, Sara, Ryan, Jr. and Anna; seven step-grandchildren, Shane, Ronnie, T.J., Derek, Jessi, Jon, and A.J.; several step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Connie (Larry) Grow of Alliance, Ohio.

Joyce and her husband owned and operated Fancy Fins Pet Shop out of their home in North Pekin from 1975 to 1981. She was known as the “Fish Doctor”. She later worked at the Peoria County Courthouse as a deputy tax assessor for 15 years, retiring in 2008.

She was a very devoted member of Creve Coeur Christian Church. She enjoyed helping in the church kitchen with meals, especially with the Wednesday night dinners, assisting with the church food pantry and ministering to others with church outreach.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Larry Grow and Pastor John Plunkett will officiate. Ryan Widmer, grandson, will provide the eulogy. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
