Born October 19, 1929 in Muddy to Ernest and Effie (Pritchett) Carpenter, he married Shirley I. Cross on December 30, 1962 in San Jose. She survives.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet (Bob) Armstrong of Hettick; two sons, Rob Carpenter of Madison, Wisconsin and Jim Carpenter of Pekin; three grandsons, David (Catherine) Armstrong, Dylan Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter; four great-grandchildren, Faith Armstrong, Tristen Dowland, Alora Armstrong and Quentin Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Scott Carpenter; two sisters, Mary Pritchett and Kate Shewmake and two brothers, Rex Carpenter and Charles Carpenter.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
Bob was a truck driver last working for Freight Service for 10 years and retiring in 1995. He also had driven a truck for Quality Carriers for many years.
He was devoted to spending time with his family and was formerly was a stock car driver. Bob also had helped with Cub Scouts Pack 187 at L.E. Starke School in Pekin.
He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur and attended First Church of God in Pekin, where he collected Pennies for Panama. Bob also enjoyed participating in prison ministry.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Dwight Winnett and Pastor Bill Buselmeier will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
