Born September 19, 1935 in Pekin to Elmer Ray and Vera (Lambert) Bushong, he married Sharon “Mickey” R. Finley on October 16, 1960 in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are six daughters, Cherie (Tony) Bushong-Starcevich of Pekin, Robyn (Bill) Wertz of Pekin, Shawna (Troy) Kettell of San Antonio, TX, Shaleen Bushong-Soady of Pekin, Shannon Bushong of Pekin, Kellie Voss of Pekin; two sons, Ricky Voss of Denver, CO, Kim (Donna) Voss of Salem; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonny (Jack) Fryman of Pekin and one brother, Walter (Jane) Bushong of Edwardsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry; one sister, Wanda and his longtime friend, Darlene Patterson.
He had served in the United States Air Force.
Bobby had worked for American Distillery from 1954-1978. He then worked as a security guard for I. Bork & Sons in Peoria from 1981-1993. In 1993, he moved to Ft. Myers, FL where he was a self-employed landscaper.
He was a past member of the Pekin Amvets Post #235; the William Schaffer American Legion Post 44 and the Roy L. King VFW Post #1232, all of Pekin.
Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family, driving, dancing, listening to music, playing cards and Bingo..
He was of the Baptist faith.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Rev. Jim Dawson will officiate. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin where military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
