Betty Mae Schmidt

Born on August 26, 1958 in Peoria to Millard “Bud” and Betty Marie (Hall) Broughton, she married Tony Ray Schmidt on May 25, 1985 in Lincoln. He survives.

Also surviving are her two children, Mark Haberland of Morton and Tabatha (Nick) Schmidt Hansen of Pekin; four grandchildren, Ava Haberland, Corinne Haberland, Ethan Haberland and Jade Uphoff and two sisters, Barb (Del) Tebelman of East Peoria and Beverly (Don) Byrd of Yorkville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill Broughton, Robert “Bob” Broughton and Roger Broughton and three sisters, Bonnie Fullerlove, Sandy Beck and Millie Near.

Betty worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 16 years, retiring in 2022.

She enjoyed doing puzzles, listening to music, and helping others. Betty also liked fishing (as long as she was catching fish) and visiting Gulf Shores, Alabama with her family.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Newlife Fellowship, 1010 Derby Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Pekin location of Illinois CancerCare as they provided excellent treatment to Betty.
