MAPLETON ~ Andrew William “Andy” Vlachos, 35 of Mapleton, passed away at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his home.
Born February 26, 1980 in Peoria to Nick and Londa (Simpson) Vlachos, he married Mark Munson on June 3, 2014 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Londa Lange of Mapleton; his father, Dr. Nick Vlachos of LaGrange, GA; one son, Josiah Hillis of Bartonville; two brothers, Alex (Barbara) Vlachos and Clint Lange, both of Mapleton;maternal grandfather Don Simpson of Bartonville; paternal grandmother, Catherine Vlachos of Chicago; one aunt, Marina Plastino of Idaho and his Godmother, Dr. Mary Kamberos of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather.
Andy graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Philosophy where he was President of the Republican’s Club. He then began working to achieve his Master’s Degree in Chicago. He went on to Minneapolis where he attained his Paralegal Certificate. Recently, Andy had been studying Agriculture at Illinois Central College.
He took great pride in being elected as the youngest member of the Bartonville Village Board in 1999.
Andy had worked for The Catering Company in Mackinaw for several years, last working in November of 2014.
A loving husband and father, Andy enjoyed hunting, in particular bow hunting, fishing, sports and games of all kinds. He also loved animals, music and was a talented pianist.
He attended the Jewish Synagogue Agudas Achim in Peoria.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Minister Steven Dunn will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in rural Tremont
