PEKIN ~ Alice Jean Demarest, 88, of McKinney, Texas, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Stonefield Assisted Living and Memory Care in McKinney, Texas. She was formerly of Pekin and Milford, Ohio.
Born March 20, 1934 in Carlinville, Illinois to Byron Lewis and Verna Opal (Jarvis) Ling, she married Edward James Tometich on May 3, 1952 in Waukegan, Illinois. He died October 20, 1992. She later married Carlos Demarest on November 12, 1993 in Milford, Ohio. He died October 26, 1999. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry Dean Tometich on February 20, 2014.
Surviving are four sons, Jim (Bonnie) Tometich of Pekin, Roger (Karen) Tometich of McKinney, Texas, Joe (Janice) Demarest of Lakeland, Florida and Jeff Demarest of South Africa; two daughters, Penney (Al) Braley of Milford, Ohio and Jeanie Demlow of Grand Forks, North Dakota; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one brother, Byron “Buddy” (Gloria) Ling of Lemmon, South Dakota and one sister, Bonnie (Edward) Nimmo of Concord, North Carolina.
Alice loved Jesus and was a Baptist missionary to Mexico for seven years with her husband, Carlos. She then continued working with Bearing Precious Seed Ministry at First Baptist Church of Milford for 20 years printing whole Bibles, New Testaments and portions of Scripture for mission work throughout the world. She previously had been a branch manager for Bartonville Bank in Bartonville, Illinois for 25 years.
Alice was a member of First Baptist Church in Milford, Ohio and a former member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Morton.
She was the essence of unconditional love, had a gift for giving, and loved to bake for everyone.
Her visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where a funeral service will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. William Duttry will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
