Born January 28, 1939 in Rosefield Township, Peoria County to George and Bernice (LaFollette) Stear, she married Donald F. Chitwood on October 29, 1960 at Hanna City. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Dondra Chitwood of Bartonville; one son, Todd (Tricia) Chitwood of Bartonville and three grandchildren, Vail Olinger, Skylar Olinger and Ayrton Chitwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George “Tom” Stear and one sister, Ava Williamson.
A graduate of Elmwood High School, Alice worked at Central Bank, Commercial National Bank and later at Nancy’s Hallmark in Bartonville. She formerly co-owned with her husband, Donnie, the “Welcome Inn” in Bartonville.
Alice was a very organized and particular person who had the gift of easily remembering special dates and phone numbers. She enjoyed family history and listening to country music. She enjoyed travel, especially camping and wintering in Florida. She was fortunate to have seen a majority of the United States. Alice had a love for dogs.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Steve Chitwood will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Hanna City.
