Born October 25, 1941 in Peoria to Alex and Shirley (Jordan) Reid, he married Diane Neises on December 31, 1964 in Peoria. They were married for 57 years. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, Lori (Kevin) Hofferbert, Stacey (Kevin) Jacobs, Alex “Bondy” Reid, Cory (Lynn) Reid, and Brandi Reid; 12 grandchildren, Jacob (Eyja) Fouts, Kip Jacobs, Lauren Cagle, Joel (Dree) Fouts, Kelly Jacobs, Reid (Merisa) Cagle, Jessica Reid, Alex Reid, Bricen Reid, Kyra Hofferbert, Kyle Hofferbert and Lynse Reid; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Janet (Kenneth) Harris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Todd Reid and one brother-in-law, William “Butch” Neises.
Rusty was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a retired member of Iron Workers Union Local 112.
Rusty was a model, often mistaken for Brad Pitt. You could find him at the local Kroger’s, where he was purchasing ingredients for his famous fudge, paying for and handing out grocery gift cards to military or elderly customers. He also was a known magician with his famous thumb removal magic trick. Rusty was mostly known for his daily “Church” attendance at Echo Valley Meat’s where he never bought “one” lottery ticket. He finally purchased the winning ticket.
He was a member of the Bartonville Christian Church, where he was a regular volunteer at their food pantry. He also volunteered for Limestone High School Moms Who Care, and Bartonville Grade School Bridge for many years.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Bartonville Christian Church in Bartonville. Pastor Jack Thompson and Shawn Lindsey will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the church. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
