Santi was born in Abucay, Bataan, Philippines in May 1944 to his mother, Emilia Dominguez and father, Pedro Enriquez Canare. At the age of 2, he lost his mother due to illness during World War II and was instead raised by his father and his grandmother, Maria Perez. He was an only child but was surrounded with the love of many aunts, uncles, and cousins while growing up. His father wanted him to become a veterinarian, but Santi’s true passion was architecture. In 1966, he graduated with a Baccalaureate of Science in Architecture from the Mapua Institute of Technology. While living in The Philippines, he was involved in architectural work on commercial and residential buildings and theaters.
Santi immigrated to the United States in January 1972 in search of an adventurous life and settled in Chicago, Illinois. In December 1972, he found just that in the midst of a snowstorm at a Chicago train station. He met the love of his life, Evelyn Francisco Ang, during this chance encounter due to delays in the train schedules. Not long after, in June 1973, they were married, and by the next year , they welcomed their first-born son, Francis Randolph Canare.
While in Chicago, Santi’s architectural achievements had led him to work with the Harza Engineering Company, Flur Pioneer Company, and Jacobs Engineering Company dealing with Hydroelectric and Nuclear Power Projects. Santi and Evelyn lived in Chicago for several more years as their family grew with the arrival of his father from The Philippines and the birth of their second born child, Cheryl Mirabel Canare, on 1979. In February of 1982, Santi accept a job offer with Brown & Root/Halliburton and with the Canare family in tow, they continued their life adventure with a move to Houston, Texas and for the next 41 years have called this their home. Since that time, he has also worked at John Brown and Ebasco Engineering. Evelyn began her Real Estate venture in 1982, and Santi followed her into the business in their later years. They were always together, inseparable.
Santi was a family man who was truly a master of his craft. He loved working with his hands, whether it was the latest DIY project, updating their home, building their latest projects from scratch, or designing an extension to their real estate business building. He was also an avid gardener, and like his father, had a green thumb and a passion for creating a thriving backyard. But the most important part of his life was his family. He was a devoted husband of 50 years to his wife, a supportive father to his children, and a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren. He was a quiet man with a keen observation of the world around him. He is dearly loved by his family, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
