After receiving a commission as a warrant officer, he made his way to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, where he met and married his wife and started a family. He was to be a dedicated husband and father for more than 60 years.
It was during his years as a civil servant that he learned the value of hard work, duty, and honesty, qualities he would later encourage in his own children. With these traits, and displaying a talent for administration and languages, he was later seconded to the Malaysian High Commission in London, England.
Several years after returning to Malaysia, he and his wife and children moved to the United States and settled in Northern California, where they enjoyed the proximity and kinship of extended family. While employed in the hotel and tourism industry for many years, he and his wife jointly established a home for their three children and provided for their upbringing and welfare.
Not too long after his retirement, Robert and his wife moved to Houston, Texas to live with their children. He spent most of his retirement with his family members and six grandchildren, and is survived by his spouse, his daughter and son-in law, and his two sons and respective daughters-in-law.
He was with family members when he passed away at home. He was 88.
