Melvin Hughes Bethea, a beloved husband, father, and friend, was born on September 12th in Long Branch, New Jersey to Roosevelt and Lottie Mae Bethea. He was called home by the Lord on February 6th, 2025, in Missouri City, Texas.
A proud and dedicated retired Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, Melvin served his country with honor and commitment. After his distinguished military career, he continued to contribute to his community by working as a school bus driver for the Fort Bend Independent School District, where he safely transported and inspired countless students.
Melvin was a hard working individual who also found joy in bowling, cheering on the local sports teams, watching action movies and spending time with his family. His kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of service and love.
Melvin is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 48 years, Brenda; son, Eric Bethea of Plant City, FL (Coteshia), daughter, Lisa Mitchell of Richmond, TX (Tim), five grandchildren, Tatyana, Erique, Jazmen, Jaiden, and Camryn; a great-grandson, Adrian; brother, Andrew of Long Branch, NJ (Mary), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for Melvin will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park South Funeral Home, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, Texas 77584, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 AM. A repass will occur Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, Texas 77584. A graveside service will occur Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery, 9040 FM359, Richmond, Texas.
