It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mario Alberto Moreno, who left this world on April 13, 2025, at the age of 63.
Born on March 8, 1962, Mario lived a life full of energy, kindness, and light. He was outgoing, joyful, and deeply passionate about the arts — especially the theater, where he found inspiration and connection. Whether he was performing, attending a show, or sharing stories, Mario’s love for creativity was contagious.
Mario served as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman from August 1981 to September 1985, proudly dedicating himself to the care of his fellow service members. Following his military service, he remained in San Diego for 20 years. During that time, he faced many personal struggles, including a long battle with addiction. Eventually, he made the courageous decision to return home to Houston to seek a new beginning and build a better life. With strength and determination, he turned his life around, earning his associate degree from Houston Community College and later receiving his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston in 2018.
Mario was a dedicated and compassionate nurse who cared deeply for his patients and colleagues alike. His kindness and empathy extended beyond the hospital walls, influencing every part of his life. Whether he was offering comfort to a patient, supporting a coworker through a tough shift, or simply being there for friends and family, Mario's warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His commitment to helping others was not just a profession, but a calling — one he embraced with grace, humility, and unwavering heart.
A proud member of the gay community, Mario embraced his identity with confidence and joy, creating space for others to do the same. Through the Lambda Center, he found sobriety and would have celebrated 20 years in October — a testament to his strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to growth and healing.
Mario is survived by his loving mother, Ana Moreno, his brother, Luis Moreno and his wife, Susan. He is also survived by his three sisters: Claudia “Lupita” Lott and her husband, Vince; Ana “Nani” Moreno; and Maria “Tere” Padilla and her husband, David.
Mario was a beloved uncle to two nephews, Lee Lott and his wife, Carmen, and Adam Padilla, and four nieces: Victoria Armenta and her husband, Sergio, Isabella Padilla, Jessica Moreno, and Abigail Moreno. He was also a cherished great-uncle to four great-nephews: Alec and Aaron Armenta, and Levi and Logan Lott, who he loved dearly. He was a proud uncle and great-uncle — a source of joy, laughter, and love in all their lives.
He had an extraordinary way of motivating others. Always ready with a warm smile, a listening ear, or words of encouragement, Mario made everyone around him feel valued. His ability to connect with people — to truly hear them — was a gift that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A celebration of Mario’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Forest Park South Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. All who knew and loved Mario are warmly invited to join in remembering the bright light he brought into the world.
Though he may no longer be with us in person, Mario's legacy lives on in the hearts he touched, the lives he brightened, and the love he gave so freely.
