Joe Louis Walker of Houston, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in Houston Texas at the age of 87. He was born on September 12, 1937 in Waterproof, Louisiana to the union of Henry Walker Sr. and Bertha Williams. As a young boy, his family moved to Houston Texas. He attended Jack Yates High School. Papa Joe worked many years at St. Luke’s hospital, before a lengthy career at Jay’s Prescription Shop, Bellaire, TX until his retirement. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 yrs, Dolores Ann Chenier Walker, his father, Henry Walker, Sr., his mother Bertha Williams, his siblings Henry Walker , Jr. aka Babe Ruth, Cornelius Walker, Sr. aka Nita and Booker T. Walker. He is survived by his two loving and devoted daughters Cheryl Denise Walker and Tammye Walker -Jones(D. Mark Jones) , two grandchildren Leland Thomas Joseph Jones and Kelsey Alyse Nicole Jones, sister-in-law, Faye Walker, a host of nieces and nephews known as the “Walker Strong!” and a host of other relatives, extended family and friends. Papa Joe had a unique way of making everyone feel special. His nieces and nephews loved and adored their “ Uncle Joe”. Papa Joe also has a large extended family, some whom have not met him, but have come to love him through their relationship with his daughters. Papa Joe was a loyal Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans & Houston Astros fan. He loved the outdoors & had a passion for yard work & outdoor grilling. He kept an immaculate yard & was the Kenilwood yard king and grill master. He was also king of the dominoe table even at the age of 87. Papa Joe is a beacon of love and light and his legacy of love and kindness to all will live on forever. Well Done, my Good and Faithful Servant!

A visitation will occur Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at University Christian Church, 3610 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at University Christian Church, 3610 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004. A committal service will occur Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:15 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 2237 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581. Repast will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM University Christian Church 3610 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004.
