Billie Jean was born on April 11, 1947, to Kenneth and Claudia in Chicago, Illinois. She was educated in Chicago's public school system. During her attendance at Englewood High School, she was widely known for her gregarious personality.
Her vast work history was comprised of employment in the manufacturing and public service industries: Curtis Candy Company, the U S Steel Mill, the U S Postal Service, and The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), from which she retired after a remarkable 25-year career, as a conductor.
Billie Jean was the proud mother of four children: LaShan, Andre, LaToyia and Brandi. After her retirement, she relocated to Houston, Texas, to be close to her family, and to assist in caring for several of her grandchildren.
Throughout her youth and adulthood, she maintained lasting relationships. Some became her trusted and life-long friends: Cheriff 'Cheryl', Rita, Barbara Jean, Veda, Queen, Doris, Lucy, Cammie, Chris, Andrew, Melva, Eurana, Stella, Shawn, and Jose', just to name a few, from far and near. They all valued her friendship.
Billie Jean never met a deck of cards that she did not like. She was also quite fond of a slot machine or two, or three, or four..., which explained her favorite vacation destination, Las Vegas. While enjoying her favorite pastimes, she met many good people along the way.
She was always up for a good laugh and some good-natured bantering, albeit oftentimes indelicate. You did not ever have to wonder what she was thinking, "if it came up, it came out". Whether you knew her as mamma, mommy, grandma, ma-ma, Billie, Billie Buck, Bill, Jean, or Ms. Billie, once you met her, you never forgot her.
Billie Jean passed away peacefully on the early morning of February 7th, at the home she shared with family. Her body is fully healed, free from all pain and she has been born anew, as she rests in the bosom of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Toyia, from hearts filled with gratitude, thank you for the attentive care that you provided for mamma during her time of need. She and we appreciate you.
