Corsicana,Texas to the late Alfred Terry Sr. and Luddie Bell Harper Terry. He was the
oldest of two and the only son. On Thursday, April, 11, 2024 Alfred went home to be
with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Alfred met the love of his life, Norma Hall and they were married on August 4, 1956.
This union was blessed with four children; sons Brian and Eric (deceased) and
daughters Pamela and Julia.
Growing up Alfred was a devoted son and loving older brother to his sister, Alphretta.
At a young age Alfred learned to play the clarinet. He also had a passion for
assembling model airplanes and cars. Alfred received his early education in the
Fort Worth Independent School District. He graduated from I. M. Terrell High School in
Fort Worth, Texas. From 1951 to 1953 Alfred was a proud member of the United States
Air Force, honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his time in the Air Force, Alfred continued his education and attended Los Angeles
City College and Washington State College before graduating with a degree from Texas
Southern University in 1957. Alfred went to work for the United States Postal Service
and after 32 years of dedicated service on October 31, 1990, he retired as Postmaster,
in Webster, Texas.
In retirement Alfred was able to truly enjoy spending more time with his family,
particularly his loving wife, Norma and his wonderful grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He attended numerous sporting events and found time to enjoy the arts,
especially plays. During the holidays, it was an event the entire family loved to attend.
“Big Al” was also an avid reader and loved learning. He especially enjoyed reading
novels, mysteries and books about history. He loved keeping track of world events by
watching CNN and MSNBC. A man of deep faith, Alfred had a sincere and abiding love
for God. Alfred was a keen knowledgeable student of Biblical History.
Alfred leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife Norma of
67 years , two loving daughters: Pamela Terry James (Baltimore, MD), Julia Terry
Alexander; one dedicated son Brian Alfred Terry; one affectionate daughter in law
Michelle Terry (Eric); seven adoring grandchildren David Earl Alexander Jr. (Shea),
Nicholle Terry-Smith (Ian), Eric Jesse Alfred Terry, Joshua Elton Terry, Clayton Brian
Alfred Terry (Arielle), Raven Alden Hill, Zoe Jeannette Hill; three adoring great
grandchildren Kai David Alexander, Olivia Rose Warn Terry, Mason Grey Smith and a
host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Terry
Sr. and Luddie Bell Terry, sister Alphretta Terry, and son Eric Elton Terry
