She was born Monday, April 13, 1931 in Carthage to the late Earthie Beckham and Effie Beckham Broadhead. She and her husband, Milford, lived the majority of their adult lives in the Jackson area. Vernette was a longtime member of Woodville Heights Baptist Church in Jackson and Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison. She worked for many years in the cafeteria of Timberlawn Elementary School. A strong and active woman, she loved the outdoors, spending many hours working in her yard and caring for her family. She will best be remembered for her faith and serving spirit.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Milford Thomas, and sister, Patricia Brown.
Survivors include son, Tim Thomas of Southaven; daughter, Terri Kennedy and husband Mitch of Brandon; sister, Mildred Smith and husband Ken of Hattiesburg; and grandchildren, Andy Kennedy and wife Karen, Nicholas and Natalie Thomas.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm, Monday, July 7, 2014 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 11:00am, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. Interment services will follow at 2:30pm in the Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery, Carthage.
