Born on April 29, 1945, in Jackson, Tommy spent almost all his life in Pearl where he was a well-known member of the community. He was a member of Pearson Baptist Church and a life-long Baptist. In his early days, he attended Pearl High School (Class of ‘63) and then served in the United States Marine Corp. After the Marine Corp, he worked construction and later owned a Shell Station on Pearson Road. Tommy could almost always be found with his head under the hood of a car and surrounded by his close buddies.
Tommy loved to cook, especially for his grandchildren, and no one could make a delicious pound cake quite like he could. His yard revealed a love of gardening, and Tommy frequented flea markets as an avid collector of antiques. He was a jokester, often playing tricks on his friends and family. Even though Tommy was mischievous, he loved and served his wife, son, and entire family faithfully.
Tommy frequently helped others in need through tackling a home project, giving others a ride, fixing a broken-down vehicle, or providing a welcoming place to stay—just to name a few. He served many as a father figure, mentor, or friend. He bled generosity with his time and money. Tommy, truly, was one of a kind.
On July 8, 2023, a memorial service will be held at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl to celebrate Tommy’s life. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. with the service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Special Olympics Mississippi, 2906 North State Street, Suite 206, Jackson, MS 39216.
