

Senie Adelaide Alliston Fortenberry, 98, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Wisteria Gardens, Pearl. Funeral services are 11:00am Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 9:00-11:00am Tuesday preceeding the service.
Senie was born November 12, 1911 to the late David Eugene Alliston and Martha Smith Alliston in Rankin County. After graduating from Central High School in Jackson in 1929 and from Hinds Junior College she attended Mississippi College and State Teachers College (Mississippi Southern).
She was married to Wayne A. Fortenberry. While he was away during the war, Senie worked for the Casualty Branch of the War Department in Washington, D.C. for over three years. After the war while her children were in school she was a substitute teacher at Byram School. She was a nurse for several years at University Medical Center and Baptist Hospital. She served on the Mississippi Board of Nursing for eight years.
Senie was a charter member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson where she was a Sunday School teacher and active member for many years. After moving to Pearl she became an active member of Eastside Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. Fortenberry; sisters, Edna Alliston and Frances Robinson; and brother, Eugene Alliston.
Survivors include sons, Ronald Fortenberry of Soddy Daisy, TN, Douglas Fortenberry of Pearl and Patrick Fortenberry of Newnan, GA; six grandchildren, Churck Fortenberry of Soddy Daisy, TN, Dawn Harrigill of Brandon, Deidre Triggs of Gulfport, Gay Arnold of Pearl, Scott Lewis of Asheville, NC and Ashley Norton of McLean, VA; eleven great-grandchildren, John Blakenship of Princeton, VA, Stephen Langele of Brandon, Matthew Langele of Brandon, Justin Harrigill of Brandon, Marlee Triggs of Gulfport, Adeline Straughn of Gulfport, Noelle Couey of Pearl, Tate Couey of Florence, Amber Couey of Pearl, Luke Norton of McLean, VA and Caroline Norton of McLean, VA.
