She was born Friday, May 7, 1920 in Richton, Mississippi, a daughter of the late L.D. Cochran and Ella Burch Cochran. Mrs. White was the youngest of five children growing up on a farm in Richton, where she sang in the church choir and played piano. While attending Mississippi Southern in Hattiesburg, she played alto saxophone in the marching band, sang in the chorus, and met her future husband, Lewis White. After WWII, they married and enjoyed 61 years together until his death in 2006. His career in the Paper Mill Industry took them from Starkville to Pensacola, FL, Silsbee, TX, Birmingham, AL and back to Mississippi for retirement. Wherever they went Mrs. White fell in love with the people and made lots of friends and wonderful memories. Known for her southern charm, she loved to host church, family, and community parties. Her love for family, friends, and church made her life complete.
Mrs. White’s last few years have been in the loving care of the Brookdale Brandon Retirement Home, and Gentiva Hospice assisted in her final months. Indeed, Mrs. White had a rich life because of the wonderful people who surrounded her and the countless blessings of God.
She leaves behind: son, Curtis White and wife Deborah of Saluda, NC; daughter, Charlotte Lovett of Brandon; and grandchildren, Cam Darby of Charleston, SC, Anna Lovett, MD of Brandon and Alan Lovett, JD and wife Meg Pace of Birmingham, AL.
Memorials may be sent to Lakeside Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 5007, Brandon, MS 39047, or Mission first, P.O. Box 250, Jackson, MS 39205, for Dr. Lovett’s Medical Ministry.
