She was born October 4, 1937, in Ruth, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Ham Hobson Rutland and Loubirta Givens Rutland.
Mrs. Ray was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a long time member of Pearson Baptist Church where she loved her church family. A true friend to many, her giving spirit and benevolent manner endeared her to all who knew her. She retired from Georgia Pacific after 49 years of dedicated service. After the loss of her daughter, she became actively involved with Compassionate Friends, serving as a chapter leader for several years. In her free time, her favorite hobby was “plundering” with her shopping buddies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James I. “Jimmy” Ray; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Lou Ray Simpson and Greg Simpson; and brothers, Billy Joe Rutland, and Hobson Eugene Rutland.
She is survived by sons, Gregory Keith Ray, and James William “Jamey” Ray; daughter-in-law, Cindy Ray; grandchildren, Christopher Keith Ray and wife Shannon, Joshua Ham Ray and wife Carrie, and Adam Gregory Ray and wife Crystal; great-grandchildren, Bella Ray, Brady Ray, Savannah Rose Ray, Adelynn Ray, and Camden Ray; and brother, Gordon Lane Rutland and wife Loretta.
