Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Friday, April 21, 2023, at Puckett United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:00pm. Interment will be held in the Johns Cemetery, Brandon. As Ronnie would have wanted, his family will be wearing jeans to his services, and encourage guests to also dress in casual attire.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kristie Simmons McElroy; sons, Ryan “Flash” McElroy, and Kody McElroy; parents, Don and Pat McElroy; sisters, Dawn Rodgers, Kim Bishop (Stephen), and Michelle Williams (Trey); and his nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kristina Marie McElroy, and he will be laid to rest beside her.
To say Ronnie “lived life to the fullest” would be an understatement. He was constantly in 110% mode and was the epitome of “give it all you’ve got”.
Ronnie and Kristie were devoted to their family, and theirs was the home where everyone gathered. Known as “Caveman” by his sons’ friends, Ronnie fit right in with whatever the guys were doing. And every family trip to take the boat out on Smith Lake included lots of their “extra kids”. His times with his sons were among his happiest and these hold special memories for them. Whether hunting with Ryan- shoot on 3-, or hitting the car shows with Kody, Ronnie was in his element. In his free time he enjoyed spending time working on restoring his ‘76 Bronco, riding his Harley, playing pool, and watching Nascar.
Gatherings with family and friends were important to Ronnie, especially the crawfish boils. He could be found holding court, joking and picking on others, especially his sisters. As the oldest and only male of four siblings, they were targets for his capers, and they fell for most any story he told them.
Ronnie’s business, M&R Protective Systems, flourished under his commitment to his customers. Meeting their needs and providing excellent service were important to him, and this dedication was appreciated by those he worked with.
Perhaps Ronnie’s legacy can best be described as one of love, laughter and loyalty, for his family and friends alike, and the footprint he leaves on their hearts will forever be cherished by those he shared his life with. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
