Polly was born to Mose and Bessie Leslie on December 16, 1928, in Sallis, MS, and raised in Leake County. She graduated from Thomastown High School and completed a business course at Holmes County Junior College. She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Protestant Church in Leake County.
Polly retired from the Jackson Police Department after having worked many years as secretary to the Chief of Detectives. She was well-loved and respected by those with whom she worked. After retirement from the Police Department, she was employed by the federal government in the Veterans Administration.
Although Polly never married and had no children, she took great joy in being a vital part of the lives of four generations of nieces and nephews. She served as a volunteer at Merit Hospital in Brandon and was a favorite of the neighborhood children. An avid gardener, she and her sister Jo maintained a beautiful garden and lawn at their Brandon home. After moving to the assisted living facility, she “adopted” the courtyard area and devoted many hours toward its beautification.
Other than her parents, Polly was predeceased by her brother, Hubert Leslie of Kosciusko; sister, Christine Chavers of Madison; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Troy Cain of Sallis; and nephews Troy Cain, Jr., Bill Cain, Dick Cain, Jack Leslie and Roy Leslie. She is survived by her sister Martha Jo Leslie of Brandon, nieces Jeanette Cain Winstead of Brandon and Wanda Price of Long Beach, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held on March 22, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at the Shiloh Methodist Protestant Church cemetery, located at the corner of Shiloh Road and Highway 429, northwest of Thomastown, MS.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of Mississippi Veterans, 2921 8th St., Meridian, MS 39301.
