He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez Hughes Lawson and Homer Ray Moak and a sister, Martha Woodruff.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Lori Graham Moak, a son, Micheal (Donna) Moak, three grandchildren Reagan Moak, Parker Moak and Elijah Moak. His two brothers James (Belinda) Moak and Gary Moak, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many dear family members and great friends. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by all.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was lovingly known as Papaw to his dear grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart. He was so fortunate to spend most of his free time attending extracurricular activities with each of them over the last 23+ years including any school functions, cheerleading, dance, football, baseball and so many more activities. He never missed an opportunity to show his love and support for each of his grandchildren no matter what they participated in over the years. He also shared his life’s experiences, knowledge of so many different things, variety of talents and his hard work ethics which his son, Micheal inherited and together they made a great father and son team dedicated to serving others with pride.
His favorite team was Mississippi State - he attended and watched all their games as well as other SEC teams whether it was football, basketball, baseball, a variety of sports and other activities like playing dominos and cards.
Wayne was an avid rabbit hunter but he enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing as well. Wayne’s beagle dogs held a special place in his heart, he loved and cared for all of them over many years. He thoroughly enjoyed raising, training and running his beagles as much as he could. He was widely known for his love of training and running beagles in the old traditional ways. He loved to be walking along with them, just being able to hear them running rabbits for hours on end, and most of the time he did not even shoot at many rabbits – just enjoyed the outing with his family and friends. Wayne was a very active person and he loved being outdoors walking and enjoying the fresh air.
He recently retired from working with his son, Micheal at Moak Custom Cabinetry, Inc. as a construction supervisor for many years. Wayne wore many different hats from assisting with many phases of the homebuilding process, trim work if needed, and providing excellent customer service to their clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other contacts as well as ensuring various equipment and vehicles were serviced and maintenance was completed. He was a jack of all trades.
His family would like to express their heartfelt and sincere thanks to each of the various medical personnel and teams at UMMC Hospital, St. Dominic Cancer Center, Specialty Select Hospital, GI Associates, and St. Dominic Clinic of Dogwood for their specialized care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Wayne’s memory be made to:
