A native of Foley, Alabama, Melton was born January 11, 1947, the youngest of 15 children born to the late Charles R. and Zeola Reeves Tolbert.
Although not afforded the opportunity of a formal education, Melton was a student of life, and he excelled in everything he attempted. A skilled electrician he enjoyed a lengthy career with Lamar Outdoor Advertising. He was a self-taught locksmith and helped his son to launch his career in the same field. Melton was truly a “jack of all trades” and could always find a way to make it work.
In his free time he enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. Melton liked to make others laugh and could be counted on for the best stories, jokes and witty remarks.
In addition to his parents Melton was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Tolbert.
He is survived by his children, Christine Bojar (Daniel), and Jon Tolbert (Christina); grandchildren, Cadence and Cody Ander, and Michael and Katie Tolbert; brothers, Elbert Tolbert, and Telton Tolbert; and his faithful canine companion, Shorty.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
