It is with the heaviest hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Laura Frankene Owens, who peacefully departed this world on March 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Those who knew her called her “Frankie” and know that she was a woman of remarkable faith, unwavering love, and boundless compassion. She leaves behind a void that can never be truly filled.
Laura Frankene Owens was born on July 21, 1941, in Taylorsville, MS. Mom always had a smile for everyone, and a listening ear for those in need. Her laughter was infectious, and her wisdom guided us through life's challenges. She loved her animals and took care of any animal or person in need. A natural caretaker at heart. She was a 27-year retired nurse from MS State Hospital in Whitfield, MS. After retirement, she continued to work in the medical profession as a hospice nurse, home health nurse, and private practice nurse. She was also a faithful member of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church.
Laura Frankene Owens was predeceased in death by Jimmy E. Owens (husband), William Franklin Carter (father), Laura Ellen Walker (mother), Henry Carter (brother), and John H. Owens (son). She is survived by her loving family, including John Andrew Carter (brother), James F. Owens (son and married to Lynne Martin Owens), Tony R. Owens (son and married to Kathy Dempsey Owens), and Grandchildren Sean, Matthew, Reese (sons of James and Lynne Owens), Zachary and Chloe (son and daughter of Tony and
Kathy Owens), and countless friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Laura Frankene Owens will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until 12:00pm followed with a short celebration of life ceremony in the chapel of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS. The Mississippi Nurse Honor Guard will present the Nightingale Tribute to honorably discharge Mrs. Owens from her duties.
We invite all who knew her to join us in honoring her memory.
Laura Frankene Owens, your love will forever echo in our hearts. We will miss you dearly.
