Joan Jewel Carpenter was born October 28, 1940 to Jewel and Benton Carpenter in Copiah County, MS. She lived most of her life as Joan Franklin after marrying the best looking man in Rankin County in 1958. She had a strong work ethic and business sense, even from a very young age. These qualities enabled her to grow a successful interior decorating business, make lucrative investments, and make wise financial choices that benefited her family. She passed her strong work ethic on to her children, along with her do-it-yourself attitude and generous spirit. She loved to read non-fiction, Dr. Dobson being among her favorite authors. She gave of her time by making beautiful floral arrangements for others, teaching classes at church, and leading music for Truckstop Ministries while her husband was chaplain. Her evident love for God, music, and family can be documented throughout her lifetime by the way she lived.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Franklin, her parents, Jewel and Benton Carpenter and her brother, Walter Carpenter.
She is survived by her son, Mike Franklin (Tina) of Jacksonville, AR. Her daughter Gina Franklin (Lori) of Sparks, NV. Her daughter Cynthia Taylor of Birmingham, AL. Her brother, Gary Carpenter (Joy) of Pelahatchie, MS. Grandchildren, Kristan Angel (Charles), Staci Gasaway (Tiffany), Sydney Bieber, Ryan Taylor (Samantha) Nikki Taylor, and Carley Taylor. As well as a host of great-grandkids, family, and friends.
