Jimmy was a 1979 graduate of Florence High School. Later in life he chose to further his education and received an Associate’s Degree from Kaplan University in 2009.
Jimmy began working at the young age of 16 and enjoyed various vocations during his career, including pipeline, steel work, mailroom and parts delivery. In each term of employment Jimmy was known and admired for his strong work ethic and for being friendly and supportive of his coworkers.
Jimmy loved people, especially children, his own nieces and nephew in particular. He attended many of their sporting events and also served as a coach for little league baseball. He was a faithful fan of each of these children-and their friends-and championed them throughout their formative years.
In his free time Jimmy enjoyed classic rock, attending countless concerts, and watching his favorites, Ole Miss and the Miami Dolphins. He liked traveling and made many treks to photograph old bridges and barns. He also had a keen interest in astronomy, geocaching and online gaming.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Ballard; and grandparents, Annie Mae and J.H. Ballard, and Ina Mae and Dennis Baker.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Ballard; sisters, Regina Shaw and husband Marty, and Sheryl Patterson and husband Michael; nephew, Brandon Shaw; nieces, Brooke Quick, Kara Patterson, Aubree Patterson, Whitney Jones, and Regan Shaw; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brailyn, Harper, Rip, Lexi, Laela, Mason, and Marlee; and his special friend, Debbie Applewhite Mixon.
