Carpenter: a skilled tradesman and craftsman who is responsible for the cutting, shaping and installation of building materials during the construction of buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete formwork, etc.
Throughout his life Jerry often referred to himself as a “carpenter”, but in reality Jerry Bates was so much more. A truly talented builder, Jerry worked hard to ensure that each project he was a part of was done masterfully, and his many construction clients respected his integrity in providing quality work. In addition, he worked for the Pearl School District and was the teachers' go to handyman for anything they needed. Jerry was also a builder of relationships. Whether customer, family or friend, Jerry appreciated his relationships with those he cared about, and he worked to build and maintain trust with others. His children and grandchildren were his truest joys in life, and he worked to build a solid foundation of values for them. Jerry’s love for building has touched everyone who was privileged to know him and will long be a reminder of the power of dedication to hard work and love for family.
Jerry is survived by his son, Taylor Bates and wife Reagan; daughter T Jay Castro and husband Jose; mother, Hazel Bates; brothers, Raymond Bates, and Joe Bates; eight grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, September 23, 2022, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl.
