Born July 13, 1944, Jerry Wayne Barrett went to school in Sebastopol, Mississippi and Brandon, Mississippi. He enlisted on June 18, 1962 in the United States Army while still being high school, later obtaining his GED while in the service and was honorably discharged on February 29, 1968.
As a member of Skyway Hills Baptist Church for nearly 50 years, Jerry once served as a music director for a time and had his Family in church anytime the doors were open. His devout Faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was adamant as well as admirable. In addition, free moments were spent his Church or reading his Bible - completing It in its entirety at least 29 times. Just as Jesus was quick to offer friendliness and comfort to any and everyone, Jerry was, too, as he never met a stranger.
Although he was a huge prankster who loved playing cards, playing (and always winning) games of dominoes, Jerry knew that to play hard meant working hard. For many years he was employed by Harding Machine Works in Jackson, Mississippi and made sure to provide for his family and took very good care of his children. Anyone that knew him could tell how much he loved to spend time with them, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Otherwise, he could be found hunting or fishing, enjoying God's Green Earth (and green was his favorite color) or watching his beloved Old Westerns on TV.
Jerry is survived by his four children, Sheila Marie Barrett Oliver (Michael), William David Barrett (Holly), David Wayne Barrett (Stephanie), and Howard Preston Barrett; nine grandchildren, Lauren M Brown (John Allen), John B Oliver (Bailey), Sara A Reed (Evan), Phillip J Oliver, Carrie A White (Brian), Hannah Williams (Dustin), Abigail Barrett, Isaiah Barrett, and Evie Barrett; six great-grandchildren, Collins M Brown, Briley White, Haisley White, Mabry Williams, Cohen Williams, and Avie Williams.
Preceding him in death for Heavenly reunion is his father, William Preston Barrett; mother, Frances Elizabeth Barrett; one sister, Frances Jane Barrett Carlisle (Roger); and brothers, Robert Barrett (LIL), Charles H Barrett (Carolyn), Richard Barrett (Betty), Johnny Barrett (Jean), and David R Barrett.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are John B Oliver, Phillip J Oliver, John Allen Brown, and Brian White. Active pallbearers are Evan Reed (Grandson), Dustin Williams (Grandson), Wesley Kinnebrew (considered as a son), Chuck Willis (considered as a son), Phillip Crapps, and Cameron Bullock.
