Mr. Cobb was born November 3, 1947 in Yazoo City, MS to Clifford and Dorothy Brown Cobb. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army National Guard. He then worked for the Illinois Central Railroad where he retired after 29 years of service. His railroad co-workers called him “Spanky”.
James was a parishioner at St. Richard Catholic Church. He loved the outdoors and started hunting with his father and grandfather as a child. He was a member of the Old Byram Hunting Club and served as a board member. He had a passion for cooking for others, often outdoing himself and is well known for his potato salad. A generous pet lover, his favorite indoor activity was holding his puppies.
Mr. Cobb is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Worrell Cobb; son Jason and Cricket McIlwaine of Jackson; grandsons Liam, Spencer, and Harry Mcilwaine; and sisters Carol Smith and Sharon Brim of Pearl. He was preceded in death by his son Hunter Cobb, his parents, sister Marie Woodrick, and brother David Cobb.
