Mrs. Slay was a true southern lady and was loved by all who knew her. She was the daughter of Sudie and Vernon Avery of Macon. She attended East Mississippi Junior College and became a dental hygienist in Jackson where she met her husband of 61 years, Glen W. Slay. She served in various organizations with her church, scouts, and schools. She was a true homemaker, always serving and caring for her family and others and teaching by example. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church, where she loved her church family and delighted in sharing her gifts and talents with others.
Mrs. Slay is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, her two brothers, and her husband.
She is survived by daughters Peggy Foggin (Roger) and Patty Roper (Richard); son Avery Slay (Lynn); grandchildren Matthew Williamson (Liesl), Cory Slay (Kristi), Justin Slay (Esther), and Beth Roper; and great-grandchildren John Avery, Hadley, William, Sydney, and Ruby Slay.
The family would like to thank all of the outstanding and loving caregivers of Wisteria Gardens who became an extended family of friends for Mrs. Slay.
Funeral services will be in the chapel at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., preceded by visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
