Don Read

Don Read was born Devan Wright Read on June 14, 1918 to Webster B. & Katherine Gilbert Read in Louin, MS. He died peacefully at his home on October 28, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Brandon First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2PM at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Read married Nancy Taylor in 1940 and they shared the next 70 years together. He was a veteran of WWII. He was employed as an insurance executive and retired with Southern Farm Bureau. Mr. Read was very active in all churches that he attended. He was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, lay leader, and choir member.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; and grandson, Dan Read; 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Mr. Read is survived by his son, Van Read (Ann); daughter, Ditto Martin (Woody); brother, Dale G. Read; sister, Katherine Edwards; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
