David Case Weeks, 79, of Jackson, joined his heavenly Father on Thursday March 23, 2023 while surrounded by his family. Per his wishes, simply a graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
He was born on September 3, 1943 to James Corley Weeks and Alma Gertru Case Weeks at Hinds General Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. David proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he trained explosive detection canines. David was also a Master Mason. From February 8, 1971 until January 21, 2001, he dedicated himself to the Jackson Fire Department. David earned the nickname "Zoom" from his readiness to rush into any emergency without hesitation to offer aid. He was the first one in and the last one out. David never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back. A devoted man of faith, he spent time as a deacon at Westview Baptist Church in Jackson and attended First Baptist Church of Jackson. David was a wealth of knowledge and the definition of a history buff, and the Bible was no exception. He seemly knew every page not only forwards, but backwards and would often quiz others for fun. Not only did he enjoy the trivia, but as a Sunday School teacher, David sought to help others to even better know the Lord and His teachings. He was first in his family to get a college degree and made sure his daughter and grandson put education first in their lives as well. Free time was best spent out in nature in the eyes of David who loved anything in the great outdoors, especially swimming, jet skiing, fishing, saltwater fishing, or duck hunting. He also loved to tinker, seemingly always finding some "little side project" to keep busy with. His greatest joy in life, however, were by far his daughter and grandson, who David often referred to as his "world".
Preceding him in death is father, James Corley Weeks; mother, Alma Gertru Case Weeks; father-in-law, Joseph Lloyd Kelly; and mother-in-law, Margie Thornton Kelly.
David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Diane Kelly Weeks; daughter, Nicole Elizabeth Weeks and husband Tony Reynolds; grandchildren, Shanna Jackson and husband Ronald, Austin Reynolds and wife Erin, Colby Reynolds and wife Morgan, Hope Reynolds, and Reagan Easton Benton; six great-grandchildren; and a number of other dear extended family members and friends.
He will be so dearly missed.
