David was born February 2, 1933, in the Springhill Community of Lafayette County, Mississippi.
He enjoyed a lengthy career as an inspector for Big 10 Tire Company where he retired after more than 40 years of service. An avid fox hunter David was widely known in the hunting arena. He was recognized by the National Foxhunters Association and was a charter member of the All American Running Hound Classic. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and raising his flowers and fruit trees.
David was a family man through and through. He was proud of his family and raised his children to respect the Lord and others as well as themselves. Memories of times spent with their dad are precious to his children-running to meet him at the end of the driveway when he returned from work each day, riding in the back of his truck seated on his dog crate. Although the distance from driveway to home was short those moments with their father were tremendous in the hearts of his children. In his later years his grandchildren were the light of his world and he doted on them every chance that he could.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nelda Jean Crawford Hellums; parents, John Warren Hellums, and Willie Avis White Hellums; and siblings, Louise Hellums Head, Johnny Moore, Henry Moore, and Joey Hellums.
Survivors include son, Rodney Clay Hellums and wife Marie; daughters, Jean Hellums Williams, and Joyce Hellums Jerrolds and husband Don; grandchildren, Dewayne Hellums, Alicia Jerrolds, Jessica West, Jared Jerrolds, Jonathan Jerrolds, Ryan Hellums, Amber Hellums Williams, and Alison Hellums Myers; 12 great grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Annice Hellums Jenkins, Syvillie Hellums Wells, Annie Hellums Parker, Vannie Hellums, and Francis Hellums Brown .
