Charles Allen Fairley, fondly known as Pappy, moved on to be with his Lord and Savior on February 21, 2022 at his home in Ridgeland surrounded by his wife of 66 years, Martha, and his most valued possession his beloved family.
Born September 11, 1933 in Rankin County, MS, Pappy was the son of the late Winnie Welch and Walter Elon Fairley. After graduation Pappy joined the United State Marine Corp during the Korean War. Pappy said "as a Marine you are trained to make calmness out of chaos" and that's exactly how he approached everything in life, especially in a household with three daughters.
In 1958 Pappy took the love of his life out to San Diego to raise a family. After 16 years of California lifestyle, he decided to return to the state he called home. In 1997 he retired from Kroger but never stopped working. He was a devoted member of McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church where he faithfully served in many capacities. He also took great joy in volunteering at the food pantry. If ever there was a need, Pappy was there.
Pappy is preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Harold, Walter Elon Jr. and David, his baby sister Elaine and his precious daughter, Lisa Fairley Wheatley.
Pappy is survived by his one true love, Martha Dotson Fairley of Ridgeland, two daughters, Charlyn Dean of Ridgeland, Gigi Harvey (Rod) of Brandon. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Nathan Dean (Kendle), Jana Rodrigues (Marcos), Allison Dean, Dana Marsalis, Austin Harvey, Alex Harvey and eight great-grands.
The family would like to thank the Baptist Hospice Ministries and their earth angels, Summer, Lisa, Andrea, April, Kevin and all who cared for our Pappy during his illness.
Pappy's greatest enjoyment was having family gatherings. In honor of that, there will be a private family gathering for a military graveside service at the family cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church "Food Pantry" at 325 Mary Ann Drive, Pearl, MS 39208 or the American Heart Association at heart.org/donate
