Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 2:00pm, Friday, February 5, 2021, at Grace Baptist Church in Brandon, with interment in Crestview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Billy was born June 20, 1945, in Mobile, AL, a son of the late Marshall and Annie VanDevender. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Billy served during the Vietnam War. He worked for several years as an insurance agent and later enjoyed a lengthy career in the grocery business. Billy managed several grocery stores and in more recent years served as a food representative for Crossmark.
In 1965 he married the love of his life, Elsie Randall, and they enjoyed 55 beautiful years together. Billy was dedicated to his wife and son, and he made their home a loving, Christian family.
Billy was an active member of Grace Baptist Church and an admirable disciple of our Lord’s Great Commission. Billy loved to witness to others and at the time of his passing was preparing for the upcoming ministry at the rodeo.
Billy will be remembered for his kind, generous spirit, and willingness to help anyone he knew to be in need.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie VanDevender; son, Scott VanDevender and wife Sandra; brother, Danny VanDevender; sisters, Cathy White, and Shirley Swain and husband Tom; grandchildren, James A. VanDevender, Brandon L. VanDevender, and Marshall S. VanDevender; and great-grandchildren, Jake VanDevender, Braycen King, Aubrey VanDeverder, and Lyrix VanDevender.
Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Brandon.
