Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 1:45pm, Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Fannin. Celebration of Life Services will follow at 2:00pm at the church with interment in the Fannin Cemetery.
Carl was born November 29, 1933, in Sontag, Mississippi, one of twelve children born to the late Richard Franklin Gibson and Tera Smith Gibson. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fannin where he enjoyed being a part of the “Romeo Club” (retired old men eating out).
Carl’s strong work ethic and innate sense of loyalty served him well throughout his career in auto parts sales with Car Quest/Advanced Auto Parts. Never one to sit idle Carl was employed well past the age of eighty.
Carl’s penchant for staying active flowed naturally into his love of the outdoors. Whether hunting, camping, gardening, or fishing with his buddies in the Canecreek Fishing Club, Carl was happiest outdoors. For many years he played and coached baseball and softball, and in his free time he enjoyed trips to the beach.
Carl’s greatest passion was his love for his family. With his positive, “glass half full” attitude, Carl charted a meaningful course for life and his legacy of hard work and optimism will long be honored by his children, grandchildren, and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary D. Gibson; son, Kenny Gibson; daughters, Veronica Creel (Austin), Tammy Moses, and Sherri Franklin (David); grandchildren, Lee, Misty, Blake, Brett, Michael, Kayla, Candace, Ashley, and Alex; 13 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Sue McGuffie Gibson.
Memorials may be made in his honor to First Baptist Church of Fannin.
