She was born on April 14, 1921, in Crystal Springs, MS to Claude and Maggie Whittington.
Mrs. Nichols spent several years living in various states and countries, as her husband served in the U.S. Army. Following military retirement, they settled in Pearl, MS and Mrs. Nichols resided there for over 40 years.
Mrs. Nichols was a longtime member of Pearl United Methodist Church. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed many years working in childcare, as she loved and cared for preschool children. While in her eighties and early nineties, Mrs. Nichols could often be found serving samples at the local Sam’s Club near her home. She thoroughly enjoyed remaining active and social with that part-time job.
In 2015, at the age of 94, Mrs. Nichols moved to an assisted living facility near her family. Until three weeks before her death, she remained able to move around with her walker and go to the dining hall three times a day. Her family was extremely thankful and count it such a blessing that Co-Vid restrictions were lifted and visitation was allowed at her assisted living facility to host and celebrate with a 100th birthday party in April.
Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Colette Nichols; her son, Paul Douglas Nichols; her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jimmy Palmer and wife, Joyce; son Don Palmer and wife, Bonnie; her four grandchildren Robby “Med” Palmer, Brad Palmer, Heather Palmer Smith, Jaymie Palmer and their families. She is also survived by a sister, Claudine Wilson; a sister-in-law, Merle Mason; and a host of nieces and nephews.
