Born July 25, 1927, in Tylertown, Mississippi, he was the only child of the late Alton P. Dunaway and Bessie Rayborn Dunaway.
From an early age Mr. Dunaway learned the dignity of labor and importance of loyalty and allegiance. He proudly served our country with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed a lengthy career with Continental Can Company where his dedication to a “job well done” served him well in the many roles he filled. He retired after more than 35 years of dedicated service.
A devoted Christian husband and father, Mr. Dunaway and his wife, Dovie, were faithful members of First Pentecostal Church of Jackson for over 50 years. Later he attended Cherry Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Carthage with his wife, Minnie.
In his free time he enjoyed fishing and riding his tractor.
In recent years he was a beloved resident of Chadwick Nursing Home where he continued to stay active. Mr. Dunaway truly enjoyed people and he spent this time encouraging others and humorously keeping the staff on their toes.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wives, Rilla Mae Martin Dunaway, Dovie Saucier Dunaway, and Minnie Myrtle Pigg Dunaway; and his grandson, Joey Dunaway.
Survivors include daughter, Suzannah Vernon and husband Stan; sons, Phillip Dunaway and wife Gale, and Alton Monel Dunaway; grandchildren, Victoria Hooten, Michael Vernon, Derrick Craft, Jina Crouse and husband Brett, and Donna Lebrun; and great-grandchildren, Brihynna, Joshua, Luke, Bailey, Colby, Hayden, and Isabelle.
Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 11:00am, Monday, February 6, 2023, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel.
