On Friday, March 12, 2021, Vivian Maud (Silva) Hartsock, loving wife to Fred Hartsock, passed away at the age of 91. Vivian was born on December 5, 1929, in San Francisco, California. In 1936, she moved to Cloverdale, California where she grew up and still considers her home. Vivian and Fred got married in 1953 and they had a loving marriage till Fed passed away in 1978. Vivian is the last of her four brothers, Vernon, Frank, Albert, Charlie Silva, and a sister, Evelyn Lindley.
Over the years, Vivian worked at various locations as a switchboard operator and would often tell us stories about her “working days”. She developed some lifelong friends that she still talked to every day. Over the years, Vivian had many beloved dachshund dogs that were her children. Vivian enjoyed gardening, reading books, and baking chocolate crinkle cookies. Vivian coordinated the Cloverdale School reunion for many years before moving to Georgia. She was a volunteer at the Catholic Church and Peachtree City library. She went out to dinner with her library friends, enjoyed walking with friends, and going to tea parties with friends and family. She was kind- hearted and giving in so many ways. Family was very important to her and she loved being surrounded by them.
Vivian is survived by many nieces and nephews from California, Arizona, Arkansas, and Georgia. For some, she was a second mother and grandma. She took the roles on with honor, even down to always having a full dish of See’s Candy and Ghirardelli Chocolates. She was always loved and will be forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name can be made to the Cloverdale Historical Society. Donations to the Cloverdale Historical Society can be mailed to 215 N. Cloverdale Blvd., Cloverdale, California 95425 or made online at CloverdaleHistoricalSociety.org by going to their website.
