Patsy Ann Burdette, 85, of Jackson GA, passed away in her sleep, on April 2, 2023. She was greeted by her beloved husband, Otis Everett Burdette, as she transitioned. Patsy is survived by 3 sisters and a brother; 3 children; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Patsy was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 23, 1938. Her family moved to Atlanta when she was a teenager. She met the love of her life, Otis, at Sylvan Hills High school. They were married at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Hapeville, GA, on January 15, 1955, just before Otis was deployed to Germany.
Patsy worked as a Bellsouth telephone operator until the birth of her first child. While her children were growing up, Patsy was a team mother of every sport the children participated in, and she loved every minute of it. She learned to scuba dive and enjoyed being introduced to the beauty of the underwater world. Patsy and Otis were entrepreneurs who started a family business selling maintenance hardware, which Patsy managed until she retired. She was active in her church as an altar server, extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and volunteering her time in the church office. She loved to travel, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Europe, and the Holy Land, plus doing several mission trips with her church. At the age of 72, she went back to school, and became a Certified Nursing Assistant so that she could help others.
Patsy had a wonderful laugh and smile that will be dearly missed. She loved spending time with her family, which grew exponentially from church, her children’s sports, and law enforcement officers that she met during her son’s career. Many affectionately called her “Mom”.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sacred Journey Hospice for taking care of Patsy for the short time she was there. She was shown the love and kindness that she truly deserved.
Funeral Mass at St. Mary, Mother of God Catholic Church, 359 Old Griffin Road, Jackson, GA 30233 Jackson GA will be on April 15 at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of her life will follow the Mass. (Location to be announced.)
