Margaret M. Whitehead, 89, of Peachtree City, GA passed away September 9, 2023. She was born to the late Lee Johnson Milner and Margaret Winston Adams Milner on January 21, 1934 in Nashville, TN. She was a beloved mom, a grandmother, a friend, and a selfless volunteer.
Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed her incredible courage and willingness to live life on her terms. She retired from Eastern Airlines after almost 40 years of service and thousands of passenger problems solved. Her favorite passengers to help were the angriest ones, winning them over with her excellent customer service and impeccable people skills. After retiring, Margaret began volunteering with Airline Ambassadors and became the Director of the Children’s Medical Escort Program, which allowed medically fragile children to come to the United States for life-saving medical procedures using airline employees to accompany them on international flights. Though she never kept count, the number of children whose lives were forever transformed is probably in the thousands.
Preceding her in death are her parents; and her husband of 48 years, Tom Whitehead.
Surviving her are daughters, Kimberly Brandt-Nielsen and Juliane Santiago; son-in-law, Marc Santiago; grandsons, Zane Battistini, Erik Brandt-Nielsen, and Ryan Santiago; sister-in-law, Ann Jacobs; and four stepchildren; to carry on her memory.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Margaret will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269.
