LARRY F. SANDERS (1937-2021)
Retired Lt. Col. Larry F. Sanders, age 83, of Riverdale, GA passed away on July 29, 2021. He was born on August 29, 1937 in Winchester, KY to the late Frank and Elsie Sanders.
In the early 1940’s his father moved the family to a working tobacco farm in Winchester, KY where he was raised along with his 2 brothers. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Geography. While attending college he joined ROTC and began his career with the US Army. He attended jump school in Ft. Campbell, KY and flight school in Ft. Rucker, AL. He was a pilot of both helicopters and fixed wing planes. His military career included 3 tours of Viet Nam, graduation from the Command General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas, Commander of the Landsoutheast Aviation Branch of NATO in Izmir, Turkey and Airfield Commander of Simmons Army Airfield at Ft. Bragg, NC.
While serving in the US Army, Larry received a Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal with V Device (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Sharpshooter Qualification Badge .45 Caliber Pistol. He was honorably discharged after 20 years of service with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Sanders (nee Humphries).
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra L. Sanders (nee Ritter); his daughter, Gina K. Rodgers (Danny); his son, Stephen A. Sanders (Christie); his grandchildren, Justin C. Sanders and Nathan C. Sanders; his brothers, Allen Sanders (Ruth) and Ronnie Sanders; along with several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be held, in the chapel, on August 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, GA with military honors.
SANDRA LEE SANDERS (1940-2021)
Sandra Lee Sanders (nee Ritter) of Riverdale, GA passed away on August 11, 2021 at the age of 80.
She was born on December 31, 1940 in the small town of Matewan, West Virginia. Her family moved to Winchester, Kentucky where she spent her childhood and teenage years. She graduated from Winchester High School. Shortly thereafter she met her husband, Larry and embarked on a career as a Military wife and mother of 2 children. After her husband retired from the military she began a second career as a Diamond Salesperson with Ellman’s, which later became Service Merchandise. She was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club several years in a row. She was highly respected for her knowledge and sales style by staff and customers. She retired after 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Larry Franklin Sanders; her parents Robert P. Ritter and Minnie E. Tyler (nee Stone) and her brothers Ronald P. Ritter and Robert L. Ritter.
She is survived by her daughter Gina K. Rodgers (Danny); her son Stephen A. Sanders (Christie), her grandchildren, Justin C. Sanders and Nathan C. Sanders; her sister Bobbette S. Klaassen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel on August 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, GA.
BOBBETTE SUE KLAASSEN (1947-2021)
Bobbette Sue Klaassen (nee Ritter) of Covington, GA passed away on August 16, 2021 at the age of 73. Bobbette was born on November 19, 1947 in Winchester, KY. She graduated in 1966 from George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. Right after graduation she began working as a Civil Servant for the Federal Government. Throughout her career she worked on several different Army bases in Kentucky and Georgia. She retired after 25 years. She was a founding member of Life in the Spirit Full Gospel Church where she faithfully served as the church secretary until her death.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W. Klaassen; her parents, Robert J. Ritter and Minnie E. Tyler (nee Stone); her sister, Sandra L. Sanders; and her brothers, Ronald P. Ritter and Robert L. Ritter.
She is survived by her niece, Gina K. Rodgers (Danny); her nephew, Stephen A. Sanders (Christie); her niece, Karen Weinstein (Steve); her nephew, Mark Ritter; and her granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Klaassen.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel on August 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, GA.
