Mary Kathleen Tucker Garner, 96, of Fayetteville, Georgia passed away on September 27, 2021. She was born to parents, Albert Octhedral (Bo) Tucker and Alice Lillian Carter Tucker, of Monticello, Arkansas on January 3, 1925 in Drew County.
She graduated from Drew County High School in 1942 and then worked at the Davis Lumber Mill in Monticello for three years, starting in payroll and advancing as she was a quick learner, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Edward Carlton Garner, on November 24, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a homemaker, and together she and Ed raised their son, James (Jim) Carlton Garner, Sr. Ed and Kathleen loved people and getting to know them, and they loved to entertain and play games and have singings at their house. They also traveled together and attended Georgia Tech games, and then she lovingly cared for him after his stroke and subsequent death four years later on September 28, 1987.
She was a faithful member at the Fayetteville Church of Christ, and she enjoyed serving the Lord and sat with and comforted many that were sick and in the hospital. She was an exceptional cook, having learned from her mother, and she helped teach her family. She enjoyed traveling, going to Hawaii with Ed, and to visit her brother and his family stationed in Germany and then later to the Holy Lands with her siblings when he was a tour director. She loved decorating for the holidays as well as reading and sewing. She loved flowers and had fresh flowers from her yard in vases all over her house. She loved shopping and was known for her fashion sense. One of her very favorite things was just getting together for a good visit. Most of all, though, she loved the Lord and her family.
Kathleen is survived by her son, Jim, and his wife, Sandy Garner; her grandchildren, Laura (Brad) Smith, Shanna (John) Parker, Jimmy (Shelby) Garner, and David (Amy) Garner; her great-grandchildren; Grant Thomas, Autumn (Jon) Buckner, Blake Thomas, Zayne Parker, Derek Garner, Jake Garner, Kyndal Garner, and Emma Garner, Brandon (Brittany) Parker and Cody Parker; her brother, Carty Tucker, and her sisters, Doris (Richard) Akin, and Glenda (A.J.)
