Irene Margaret Barth

Irene Margaret Barth, of Palmetto, GA lived to the glorious age of 103 years old. She passed away on May 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 26, 1920 to the late James and Maude Patterson in Ganister, PA and was the last surviving family member out of twelve children.

Irene was a School Cafeteria Manager and Nursing Home Food Service Manager in her professional lifetime. After retiring, she was an active volunteer for the Meals-On-Wheels program and was still delivering food to nursing homes at the age of 84. She also helped patients and supported the staff at numerous nursing homes. She was a devout Christian, a loving mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother, and beloved great-great grandmother of two. In her spare time, she loved to play cards, bake, and make beaded jewelry.

Irene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 38 years, Benjamin W. Barth, who passed away in 1976. She is also preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers, James, John, Elmer, Leroy, Robert, Albert, Ralph, Donald, and Alfred; two sisters, Martha and Clara; grandson, David Light; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Light.

She is survived by her son, Richard W. Barth; daughter, Priscilla A. Light (William); grandchildren, Benjamin (Angela), Matthew, Caitlin, and Andrew Barth, Joseph Light (Chrissy); granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Light; great-grandchildren, Craig and Cassie (Derek), and Amanda (Spenser), Brogan, and Harper Barth; and great-great-grandchildren, Billy and LeeAnn.

A visitation will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory in Peachtree City, GA on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Baptist Manor Retirement Center in Palmetto, GA at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Mims officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to honor her at: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Southwest Christian Care, or to Baptist Manor Retirement Community.
