Kathleen “Kathy” Marie DeGarmo (Balgo) was finally released from her mortal and perishable shell at 6pm on June 4, 2024 after a long battle with vascular dimentia. Her husband (Paul), daughter (Paula) and granddaughter (Annabelle) were there to comfort her through her departure. Kathy was born November 15, 1955 in Glen Dale WV; graduated from John Marshall High School; married Paul DeGarmo November 24, 1973 and lived “out on the hill” raising her family until they moved to Pataskala, OH in 2002 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father: Albert Balgo; in-laws: Cecil and Olive DeGarmo; brother-in-law: Wade DeGarmo; and grandchild: Azaiah Stone DeGarmo. She is survived by her mother: Dolores Balgo; sisters: Sheila (Bob) Wilson, Theresa (Bill) McIlvain; husband of 50 years: Paul Edward DeGarmo; son: Daniel (Serena); daughter: Paula; “adopted” daughter: Jennifer (Mozie) Bonzie; grandchildren: Noah, Annabelle, Eliana, Jada, Lance, Keila, Adalena, Rylan, Amitiah, Layliah; great-grandchild: Mason.
If there had to be one word to describe her, “kind”, “compassionate” and “faithful” would battle it out to claim victory. She simply loved…and loved well. She loved animals and did whatever she could to save them, from hummingbirds to garter snakes. She loved her friends and from youth was willing to pull clothes out of her closet to give to a classmate who she thought could not afford any. She loved her enemies, never being heard to speak an evil word about them. In fact, as Paul can verify, she would simply respond to the meanness of others, “maybe they’re just having a bad day.” She especially loved her family. Her life was filled with gatherings and celebrations with family at every opportunity available. If there was a birthday party, holiday festivity, or church potluck, you can be sure she would be there to light it up with her bright smile. She simply leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness and love.
